Black & white floor, wooden wall panels and bright colors always make me wonder how inspiring the Belle Époque must have been. Hopes were up, everything was about to reborn and news aspirations were been discovered.
In regards to interiors, the design became simpler and the use of brass and marble were an important feature to make the spaces elegant and alive.
How stylish is this armchair? Shinny leather is always a nice touch, specially with stone on the background.
Do you think we are about to start a new Belle Époque?

French Hall And Stairs.
Halls and stairs have been always a very important space for me. The hall is the first space we encounter when the door is opened and the stairs that transition from one to another level.
Here some of my favourite spaces from Coco Chanel's movie, the house of Balsan. Great source of inspiration and dream, if they have different meanings.
We rarely seat or stay in a hall, but like this one, a chair is missing. Seating in front of this amazing French doors, reading a book or even just staring at the view, is just perfect for a Sunday afternoon isn't it?
Mix and match with patterns is the right choice, and always very often found in stair halls.
Maybe because I've been totally inspired by monograms lately, the blazon catches my eye.
Images from the movie Coco Before Chanel.
More inspiration.

Welcome Tiger’s New Chinese Year I.
When I was drafting my 2010 blog posts the first one coming to my mind was a special feature on the Chinese New Year as I knew I would have the perfect home to photograph. It belongs to one of my Portuguese best friends – Isabel da Mota.
Isabel lived in Macau for 15 years, among other countries. When she moved back to Portugal, she took with her every single piece of furniture and decoration she had collected in that energetic and colourful country.
Her home is one of the warmest, cosy and very welcoming I’ve ever been to. Everything is in the right space with the right colour and background. Nothing is over decorated because she knows how to do it in style.
Today I’ll post about her hall, a very important space in the house as it’s were we gather the first energy. And I can tell you this one has a very good Feng Shui.

The walls are covered with beautiful prints and photos telling interesting stories about somewhere in China.
Love this poster.

Detail everywhere.
The first frame from the top displays two envelops which married people give to single ones to wish a happy new year, as they believe the more you give the more you receive. Today this tradition has spread which means everyone gives the envelops to whom they care about to wish luck. In Cantonese they say KUNG HEI FAT CHOI LAI SI TAI LOI.
Hope you like it as much as I do.
Happy Metal Tiger’s New Year!
Next two days I'll post her living room and bedroom. Stay in touch.

Pink Is The New Black.
I started the year inspired by pink & black. I love to see these two colours together. I find them perfect to style a hall and living room, especially if they’re small spaces.
Both together balance the minimalism of black and the girlish attitude.

A living room with these two colours is like a man in a black Armani suit with pink tie (or even more daring, pink socks). Both look to me very charming.
And to go with this background, why not glass vases and bowels, black candles, black crystal chandelier, pink ceramics, mother-of-pearl deco and smoked black glass candles stands.
Imagine a space all in black & white and a big black & white Picasso on a bright pink wall. Would look great!
Doily + Tulle - both perfect to detail the interior space.
To style in style.

More inspiration to get in a pink mood, the colour of friendship.
In Portugal it´s quite popular to find houses painted in pink, especially if traditional architecture.
A pink door in Notting Hill, London.
Two lost clouds and the blue sky loosing intensity toward the earth is so beautiful and inspiring, isn’t it?

Polka Dots Xmas.
Christmas for me is all about happiness, gathering and above all playfulness. That was exactly my concept: a playful Christmas for children and indeed for adults. I wanted to feel movement everywhere.
This was one of the most rewarding styling projects I’ve done back in Portugal: a home christmas styling. My clients, who I didn’t know before this project, booked an appointment with me Friday late. The brief was simply “we want a happy red and silver Christmas”.
Saturday I bought a few things; Sunday I worked on the concept, painted a few things in silver and red and finished my shopping; and Monday styled the hall and the living room. Everything in 3 days. Freedom to do what I wanted was, indeed key for success.
They had no idea what I had in mind. Simply knew that I was sticking things on the wall, as I called to get permission. Total surprise when they got back home that Monday evening.
I knew they would love it or hate it. A challenge I had in hands. As soon as they got in, a smile in their faces couldn’t be hidden. And when they got to see the polka dots wall… I felt the most happy and lucky woman on earth. No one could hide their smiles.
It was a success to everyone involved. Later, they told me xmas decoration was an excuse to invite friends over for dinner for the whole December and that everyone loved it.
I must say I was, and still am, very proud of this project. Every opportunity I have I talk about it, like today.
Thank you Dina and Nuno Costa. It was a pleasure to design for your family.

The wood silver xmas trees were designed and painted by me. My local carpenter made them.

Materials:
Feathers. Tulle. Paper. Organza. Silk. Spray painting . Vinyl stickers. Wood. Wire. Christmas deco.
I wish everyone a happy xmas preparation.
I’m available to style flats, shops and offices for xmas celebrations. Contact me if you’re interested.

From Portugal With Love.
The following spaces belong to the same house: the entré and social rooms on the ground floor of this beautiful terrace house in Portugal. My clients’ brief was pretty simple: a family chic home!
To achieve it I’ve combined different styles giving it an eclectic feeling with the warmth of wengé and the energy of red. My inspiration was as simple as a red roses bouquet.
I wish you’ll get all the inspiration from this project. The key is to do it with love!
THE HALL AS A WELCOME TO YOU
The hall is one of the most important spaces in the house. It's the first impact, the first to communicate with our energy.Making the best of light, I've chosen wengé as a background giving touches of colour in each room.
Bespoke furniture. Organza fabric from Aldeco. Velvet armchairs. White suede sofa. Glass vases from Glasscor.
