Scratching The Surface | VHILS

A few months ago I was researching online a few Street Artists and bumped into Alexandre Farto (aka Vhils) work. Fell in love with it straight away. I'm not sure if it's the scale, the façade in decadence or the subtleness of his creations, but something strong yet simple about it dragged totally my attention.

A couple of weeks, maybe a month later I went for dinner with a friend, and because women has always loads to talk about, my friend and I continue to chat, after hours in a restaurant, next to our cars. Suddenly I look up and see that man's face, the one I saw on my computer screen but now LIVE! I stopped listen to Isabel and smiled. Instead of walking towards the wall, I walked away from it to focus that amazing portrait craved on what once was an indoor wall. A momentum of happiness, discover, a conquest I believe.

I am so proud of having his work in my city. I am so proud he is Portuguese. And I am so proud I found it.

The Bearable Lightness Of Being.

Totally exited about tomorrow's New York Fashion Week I found a reason to post my favorite line for this Spring.

Totally inspired by this lightness by Chloé. Isn't it so chic?

The Cup Of Tea.

For some time I've been flirting with this beautiful piece of art. I'm not sure if it's the form or colour hue, but something very special about this cup makes me wonder how much more special my evening cup of tea is going to be.

I guess this Friday is the day I'm buying my first one. First because I want one each colour.

The Importance Of Having A Comfy Sofa.

After my car broke this evening on my way home, the only thing I could imagine (and wish) was to seat comfortably on my couch and relax. Nothing worst than waiting for a taxi in the middle of a super busy motorway, though it's moments like this one we really appreciate how special and important our space is in our lives, don't you agree?

Have A Nice Week.

This weekend I've spent my time with friends by the beach and in Lisbon enjoying what's best out there. Sun and blue skies have been part of the scenario. It's been a great time to catch up not only with friends but with magazines and newspaper I've been pilling up lately. What a joy.

With Monday around the corner, I would like to wish you all a nice (and shiny) weekend.

A moment in Lisbon.

Vroom Vroom By Lorenzo Quinn.

Lorenzo Quinn’s monumental sculpture Vroom Vroom was installed on 23 January in the central reservation on Park Lane opposite The Dorchester, as part of Westminster Council’s Sculpture Festival.

Lorenzo Quinn - "Vroom Vroom" from Halcyon Gallery on Vimeo.

Vroom Vroom is a vintage Fiat 500, the first car that the sculptor has, handled by a child’s hand build under the references of the
author’s son. The work is an installation allusive to the relationship between parents and sons.
Quinn express the meaning of this work in his artistic career: “Vroom Vroom symbolizes part of my independence, my freedom and
my personal growth. This was the first car I bought with the money I made in my firsts jobs. It was very difficult to obtain it but when I
bought it I felt released. I had achieved something very desired and what is more important I have buy it with my own efforts. I didn’t depend on my parents any more, I was an adult”

Dover Street Market.

Dover Street Market in London is a cult shop. Concept and Direction by Rei KAWAKUBO, she designed a space "where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos: the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision."

A space to inspire interiors and fashion I am sure.

Big names like Hussein Chalyan, Lavin, egg, Alaïa, Erdem amongst others, the best are all there.

Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion.

Astonishing exhibition at Barbican Art Gallery about avant-garde Japanese fashion from early 1980's to now. From space curation to the collections on display and videos on, everything was close to perfection.

"Japanese fashion design made an enormous impact on the international fashion scene in the late 20th century and designers such as Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto redefined the very basis of fashion through their radical formal language, intellectual approach and ingenious reinterpretation of tradition. Their works are shown alongside Kawakubo's protégé, the techno-couturier Junya Watanabe, together with the acclaimed Jun Takahashi, and the new generation of radical designers including Tao Kurihara, Matohu, Akira Naka and mintdesigns." - Barbican Art Gallery

Exhibition curated by fashion historian Akiko Fukai, Director and Chief Curator of the Kyoto Costume Institute. I love the way he created a plinth for (almost) each costume on display. It recalls my final project at Central Saint Martins, which was about space curation.

Along with the plinths, walls of magic fabric recalling Japanese paper, defined the space giving a certain feeling of warmth and guidance.

This was indeed one of the best exhibitions I've ever seen.

The exhibition is co-organised by Barbican Art gallery and the Kyoto Costume Institute.
